Subjuntivo in Spanish is a mood (not a tense), which has no equivalent in English and is used to express wishes, emotions, doubts, hopes and future unaccomplished events. For example, it's used with cuando in the context of speaking about the future (ex. Cuando termine el trabajo, te llamaré), in grammatical structures describing influence or intention towards another person (ex. Quiero que salgas) and also when expressing hopes and emotions (ex. Espero que tengas un buen día). Contrary to the indicative mood (indicativo), which describes facts and what's true, subjuntivo focuses on the subjective and unsure; that's why understanding it is key to achieving the A2 level of proficiency and to avoid further issues with learning Spanish.
